I mentioned the value of crystals in the book “It’s a Secret, So Pass It On: a Toolbox For Life.” I mostly discussed quartz crystals since they have multiple, provable uses as energy collectors and sharers. Whole books have been written on the value of quartz, and many others discuss the healing aspects of most known stones and crystals found on Earth. Hopefully a brief discussion of crystals other than quartz will encourage readers to examine their potential to aid us in times of need.
My wife and I sold a large number of crystals in our bookstore because they helped people. To cite one of many examples, a young woman was displaying obvious distress and pain in her abdomen. It was almost more than she could bear, so she admitted to my wife that she was struggling with her menstrual cycle. My wife let her hold a piece of green malachite against the area of pain, and it began to subside. When finished, the malachite took on a dull gray appearance, the obvious result of removing the negative energy from the young woman’s abdomen.
All crystals have vibrations that coincide with their colors, which makes it a little easier to learn their usefulness. For instance, since the seven main energy centers (chakras) in our body are associated with the seven colors of the rainbow, it isn’t surprising red stones such as garnets and red jasper are associated with the root or grounding chakra. Thus, they help to ground us in times of stress and serve as a means of protection. This function is also found in hematite and black stones such as onyx and obsidian.
The second chakra in the lower abdomen is associated with the color orange. So carnelian, amber and orange calcite are among the stones that can help enhance creativity, sensuality and reproduction. The yellow third chakra in the solar plexus is aided by yellow crystals like citrine, imperial topaz and gold tiger’s eye. These stones help increase personal power while also aiding the intellect.
Two different colors are associated with the heart chakra. It is the middle chakra, so the color green applies there. Malachite, green jade, green tourmaline, and green fluorite are among the stones useful for that chakra. Pink stones like rose quarts are also heart-based and serve to improve feelings of love.
Light blue stones like lapis lazuli, blue lace agate and sodalite are useful for the throat chakra.
Communication can be enhanced using these crystals, along with aiding thyroid function. The third eye or 6th chakra is deep blue, so azurite, sugilite, lepidolite and amethyst aid psychic development and help us let go of unhealthy behavior patterns. Since amethyst is purple, it is also often associated with the 7th or crown chakra, which is our connection with spirit. Clear quartz, herkimer diamonds, moonstone and selenite are among other crystals that can serve a similar purpose.
There are far more crystals than can be listed here, and more continue to be found. A number of people are sensitive to the energy vibrations of these various stones and can tune into their functions with accuracy. Among the more common stones and their uses include:
Amber: Mentioned above, amber can draw out negativity. I have used small pieces of amber successfully to eliminate a sore throat during colds by taping one to each side of my neck in the vicinity of the pain.
Aquamarine: Aquamarine is useful for increasing courage, peace and communication.
Aventurine: There are several colors of aventurine. In general, they can help us with new adventures, as the name suggests.
Bloodstone: This is a popular crystal used to aid centering, adaptability and reducing anxiety.
Calcite: The various forms of calcite help amplify energy while reducing fear and stress.
Citrine: Citrine aids in mental clarity in addition to the functions described above.
Crazy Lace Agate: This attractive stone with the unusual name is used for protection and improving focus.
Dioptase: This crystal helps with healing and self-worth. It also helps us live in the moment.
Emerald: It is associated with love, communication and truthfulness.
Fluorite: Aspects of fluorite usefulness include spiritual wholeness, peace and organizational ability.
Iolite: This stone is useful for aiding psychic healing, curiosity and sobriety.
Jade: Characteristics of jade include love, fidelity, generosity and abundance. It is said also to help with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Kunzite: It is good for relieving stress and the pain of broken hearts.
Kyanite: This stone is associated with loyalty, chakra balancing and reducing anger.
Labradorite (also Spectrolite): This stone serves as in aid in psychic protection and stress reduction. It is said to be helpful to those suffering from deep emotional issues such as child abuse.
Moonstone: Those seeking to improve intuition or reduce obesity and overall sensitivity might try moonstone.
Moss Agate: It is specific for Geminis because of their dual nature. This stone can aid self-confidence, protection and abundance.
Peridot: This green stone is good for the heart chakra as well as balance and compassion.
Sapphire: Sapphire is good for intuition and creative expression.
Some people purchase a number of different crystals to have on hand depending on need. Some lay the appropriate stones on their bodies in the area of their chakras as a means of balancing their bodies. Some follow recommendations from healers on layouts of various stones on their bodies for specific healing purposes.
But my wife and I found that those customers who seemed happiest with their purchases were naturally attracted to specific crystals and studied their purposes after purchase rather than vice versa. The attraction they felt demonstrated an imbalance the crystal or crystals were serving to correct. Using logic may work at times, but using feel may be a better solution for most of us. Either way, we encourage those with an interest to check out crystals for the value they can provide our lives.
And since everything is made up of energy vibrations, we can say crystals are our friends since they are much like us. We are far more alike than most realize.
