Blog #40--Humans Don't Always Know Best

The human ego loves to believe it is independent of the laws of Nature. Based on that assumption, we look for ways to manipulate the forces of Nature to our advantage. Often, militaries around the world are at the forefront of ground-breaking research, hoping to find the ultimate weapon to destroy their enemies. And those who depend on the military for their security give plenty of emotional and financial support to these efforts.
This would be fine if humans really did have power over Nature. We think we do because we refuse to consider the negative side effects of our efforts. For example, a number of governments around the world have been learning techniques to manipulate weather and then adapting them for military uses. Governments keep their secrets from the public, but we have seen plenty of evidence that weather manipulation is both possible and can be localized to harm specific target areas.
What we tend to overlook is that everything is connected with everything else. In other words, if we create a massive drought in one area or country, we simultaneously create excessive rains in areas adjacent to the target area. This is guaranteed because Nature works to balance imbalances. Like the idea of “robbing Peter to pay Paul,” what we take from one creates a void that draws other energy to it. If we create one polarity extreme, the opposite polarity is naturally attracted to it.
Eventually, manipulating weather in one area, no matter how small, has a ripple effect on the rest of Earth. Thus, the instigators may eventually suffer unexpected consequences from the chain reaction. Nature must balance, and it favors no one. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
Another example is planned earthquakes. Yes, some highly intelligent minds with dubious rationale have learned to produce earthquakes to use against their enemies. A country can certainly cause death, destruction and mass panic by creating massive earthquakes in strategic areas. Or, the threat of destruction can be used for blackmail purposes.
Any earthquake, man-made or otherwise, affects every fault line on Earth. When one tectonic plate shifts, all the others must shift to re-create a balance. Of course, we can argue that those arrogant enough to attempt a massive disruption of the Earth’s energy fields likely deserve the chain reaction that might eventually wipe out friends and family in addition to foes. The instigators likely assume they are immune to self-destruction, to their eventual regret. And a lot of innocent people suffer along with them.
As a group, we tend to overuse any drug that has positive benefits. Unfortunately, too much of a good thing is a bad thing. For example, “superbugs” that are immune to frequently-used antibiotics have mutated due to the excessive use of those drugs. After all, viruses, bacteria and other micro-organisms have the same biological imperative to survive we have. We love to claim the ability to treat illnesses effectively, but the treatment can eventually guarantee failure, either in ourselves or those who come after us.
We now have “super rats” that are bigger than normal and are immune to rat poisons because we have attempted to eradicate them. The same thing goes for some of the parasites that adversely affect crops. Once they become immune to normal poisons, whole fields of crops can be wiped out in short order. Many similar examples are available to us, should we ever wish to study this phenomenon.
As another example, unscrupulous scientists from technically advanced countries have used unsuspecting people in third world countries as guinea pigs to test their new drugs. Their own country’s laws are lax enough to limit independent testing of the drugs, so it seems to me one of their primary interests is in finding drugs that kill off certain ethnic or religious groups without anyone knowing the cause.
Measles and polio vaccines have been used for this purpose according to multiple credible sources, and so have a number of other drugs and vaccines. If a corporation has no moral development, it won’t care who dies, as long as it reduces the population of those who might stand up to their notions of superiority. Of course, it might also kill some of the scientists and politicians who helped the pharmaceutical companies with their diabolical plans in the first place.
Let’s face it: no human can anticipate and account for every possible consequence of our actions. No amount of intelligence, hard work or good fortune can prevent the possibility of adverse reactions to efforts we make to manipulate Nature for our own self-interests. Unfortunately, few of us reconsider our follies and adapt to Nature rather than trying to force it to adapt to us.
We keep beating our heads against a brick wall, all in the name of controlling Nature. Despite the large lump on our foreheads, we still keep banging away, certain of our superiority. If only it were true.
